Rev. A Mechanisms and Operation 2-25
TM-T88 Series Technical Manual
Reset from the host interface differs in accordance with interface specifications, as shown below.
RS-232C interface specifications
Selection between two signals (DSR signal or PIN 25 input signal) is possible.
1284 parallel interface specifications
Always use the #25 RESET signal. DIP switch 2-8 is always on. With the 1284 parallel interface,
this printer can be reset from the host interface signal’s nInit signal (PIN 31).
M-T88 Control Circuit
Thermal head drive circuit
The print head of the receipt printer mechanism is a thermal type print head with 512 dots per
line. All print head control is performed via a gate array. A driver is built into the print head,
and sending of print signal RSI, which is synchronized with the RSCKL signal, to the driver sets
the print/non-print status of each dot. Data is confirmed by latch signal RLT. Print time control
is performed by RSTB1 and RSTB2, while energizing time is controlled by the gate array.
Changes in head temperature causes fluctuation of the resistance value of the thermistor built
into the head, which is output as temperature signal THR. This signal is read by the analog port
of the CPU (U4).
Paper feed motor drive circuit
The paper feed motor has a precise angle of rotation (highly precise movement amount), and
allows control of motor speed. When RPFCOM signal of the CPU (U4) goes H, +24V are applied
to the COM terminal of the paper feed motor coil, and RPF_+A, RPF_-A, RPF_+B, and RPF_-B
change between H and L. The H/L change speed of RPF_+A, RPF_-A, RPF_+B, and RPF_-B
determines the speed of the motor. RPFCOM signal of the CPU (U4) changes back to L after the
paper feed operation is complete.
Auto cutter drive circuit
The auto cutter drive uses a TA8428K DC motor dedicated IC. Signals AC_1 and AC_2 from the
CPU (U4) performs clockwise and counterclockwise operation, and braking of the auto cutter.
Detector circuits
Paper end sensor circuit
The thermal printer mechanism is equipped with a paper end sensor, which is connected via
switch circuit board assembly-B to the main circuit board unit-A. The paper end sensor is
enabled when the PTLED_COM signal output from the CPU (U4) is on, and paper end signal
RRE is input to the CPU’s analog port.
AC_1 AC_2 Operation
LLOff
HL Clockwise
L H Counterclockwise
